Frequently Asked Questions VIEW MORE
Do you represent talent outside of the Okanagan?

The answer is... YES! We absolutely represent talent outside of the Okanagan. We are just based in Kelowna, BC.

Our roster is comprised of top-tier talent from Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Los Angeles, New York, Ohio, etc. in addition to our Okanagan roster.

We are a nationwide talent agency – meaning if you are an actor looking for work in Canada... We have you covered no matter where you're from.

What do I need to have prepared to submit to the agency?
Please view our submissions page and read on our application requirements.
What do agents look for before they sign an actor?

Agents are looking for actors that are committed to doing the work and investing in themselves. That means we want you to take yourself seriously and enter the industry like a true professional.

To start – it's important to have a stellar portfolio and all your materials prepared. We want to see a properly formatted resume, headshots that stand-out, and an engaging demo reel (if you have one).

Next, we often look at your training or experience. Some actors are naturals, but that does not mean they do not need training to familiarize themselves in the industry. If you are not in a position to train... We recommend that you at least research industry terms, visit websites like Bacskstage, or view videos that can help you learn about the world of acting. It's better to approach an agent with some knowledge, as opposed to no knowledge.

And finally, we want to know that you are going to be committed to joining platforms like Casting Workbook, Actors Access, Casting Networks, etc. Without being apart of those platforms, it is hard for any agent to submit you for a job. So be sure to visit those websites and find out what they require and decide if you are able to reasonably join them.

I want to work in the industry, but I have no experience. How do I get started?

Most agencies prefer if you have a little bit of experience under your belt before applying to join, but that can be difficult if you don't even know where to start!

We recommend checking out local Facebook groups that promote what is going on in the film industry in your city and scouting for short-films and student projects you could apply for. However, always do your research and make sure that you are safe and not being taken advantage of.

Other options for you are to look for jobs on Vancouver Actors Guide or reaching out to film school in your area to inquire how you could get involved with their student productions! For or example, you can contact The Centre for Arts and Technology to see what their current projects are within the film program and what they're looking for.

I applied to be with your agency but have not heard back. When can I expect an answer?

While we wish we could sign every talented actor that lands in our inbox, we do not have the capacity to represent everyone. Therefore, if you did not receive an email within 5-7 business days, we recommend that you brush up your portfolio and re-apply at a later date.

There are plenty of reasons a talent agency may be unable to accept you at the time. We may already have actors signed within your 'look category' that we are dedicated to finding work for. We may only be in need of certain 'types' or actors with specific training. Or it may just be as simple as our roster is currently at capacity.

So, remember... No does not always mean never. No may just mean not right now. It doesn't mean you're a bad actor. It could just mean that we are meant to partner up at a different time!

Keep going, improving, and pursing your goals – and we are happy to revisit your application down the road :)

How does 'having an agent' work?

Talent agents act as representation on behalf of the actor. They have the ability to submit, push, and pitch you to projects or casting directors that you may not have the connections to reach. A talent agent also acts as a 'screening' service, ensuring that you are treated fairly and are only working on safe, legitimate projects. A good talent agent will always act in the best interests of their talent and protect them from shady deals or unscrupulous conduct within the industry.

Once you are signed with the agency, your agent will require you to sign up for various casting platforms so they can start submitting you for jobs. They will submit you for roles they feel match your acting ability and personal brand, in hopes to garner interest in you for the role. If you are not receiving audition requests right away, please be patient. There is a wide array of competition that you are being submitted against from agencies all over Canada, and agents have no control over if casting would like to see you read for the role. Remember, we can do our best to get you in the door – it is your job to get through it.

Your agent will try to communicate with you as best they can, but ultimately, they will mainly be focused on finding and submitting you for work.

If you get an audition, they will send out your sides and all necessary materials so that you may give the best audition possible. And if you are lucky enough to land the audition, they will then work to monitor your deal memos and negotiate contracts that are beneficial to you.

Hence, in a nutshell... Talent agents are here to be your guardian within the industry, but it is up to the actor to do the work and finesse their craft.

Why do you not display your roster online?

We do not display our roster publicly online, as we want to maintain the privacy of our actors and keep their information safe. Especially with children, it is important to maintain the integrity of the actor and ensure that strangers cannot find their personal information. Only casting directors and production teams are given access to see your information.

What is UBCP-ACTRA and how do I join?

The Union of British Columbia Performers (UBCP) is the western branch of the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television, and Radio Artists (ACTRA). For 75 years, this union has represented the interests on over 25,000 performers nationwide and actively works to fight for fairness and respect in the workplace.

You can read more about UBCP-ACTRA here.

In regards to joining the union, you have to achieve one of three requirements found here. You may apply to be an apprentice member after booking one speaking credit in a union-based production, or as a background (BG) member after 15-days of work as BG on a union production in the last 12 months. There is no way to just 'join the union' whenever you want without meeting their requirements.

What are the rules and regulations talent agencies must abide by?

You may find all of the Employment Standards guidelines for talent agencies here.

Agencies are only allowed to make a 15% commission off of the wage an actor earns when booking a film and television related job. Employment Standards also stipulates that agencies can also charge $25 per year for taking or providing photos, and must only deduct this payment once a client is paid for booked work.

If you are approached by an agency that charges for initiation fees, annual fees, or bills for any other service – we urge you to be cautious.

Our agency does not charge any other fee other than what is approved by Employment Standards.

If you are concerned about an agency or have questions about their legitimacy, we encourage you to call ACTRA at 403-228-3123 or UBCP at 604-689-0727.
